The flowers have dilute nectar that will be the sweetest in midday sun. This butterfly bush should be planted near a path or patio, and it will provide a delightful fragrance for anybody nearby. |  | | Kousa Dogwood - The Kousa Dogwood Tree, ‘Cornus kousa,’ will make for a handsome small specimen tree or shrub. It is not as susceptible to diseases as the White Dogwood is in the spring. Also known as Japanese Flowering Dogwood, it blooms later than the White Flowering Dogwood and has softer-petaled flowers. It has low water requirements and shows a decent tolerance to salt and alkaline soils. The Kousa Dogwood is commonly planted as a specimen, near a patio or in groups.
|  | | Cleveland Flowering Pear - The Cleveland Select Flowering Pear Tree, ‘Pyrus calleryana,’ is simply the most beautiful flowering pear tree in the spring, with its snowy white branches. This tree has more flowers than any other flowering pear tree. They exhibit a pyramidal form with evenly branched limbs. The attractive, upright oval form is showboated with the glossy green leaves. Tolerable of urban condition and heavy clay soils, the Cleveland Select Pear tree will reach a height of thirty feet with a width of fifteen feet.
|  | | Lombardy Poplar - The Lombardy Poplar Tree, ‘Populus nigra,’ is a tree that is commonly used for forming a quick windbreak while other, longer living and slower-growing trees mature. This fast growing tree is tall and columnar, and features bright green leaves that have silver undersides. The Lombardy poplar is deciduous and has moderate to high water requirements. It also is moderately tolerant to salt and alkaline soils. It is widely used for their grace and fast growth to provide a quick border or screen.
|  | | Chameleon Plant - The Houttuynia Chameleon Plant, ‘Houttoynia cordata,’ is one of the most commonly grown ground covers around. Its small, white flowers appear from July through August, but are often hard to see. This extremely hardy ground cover is easy to grow but may become very invasive. This plant has a somewhat citrus like scent when it is crushed. They should be used as a ground cover, in rock gardens, with water plants or in scented gardens.
|  | | Big Blue Liriope - The Liriope Big Blue, ‘Liriope muscari Big Blue,’ is a grass like foliage set with tall spikes of lavender blue blooms in late summer, resembling those of hyacinth. The Big Blue is slow spreading, and very easy to control. This versatile ornamental grass can be used as a groundcover or garden accent, or even grown in a container. It should be planted in a well drained location.
